December Books "I had the distinct pleasure of hearing Christine Comaford-Lynch speak live at Guerrilla Business School in March of 2007. She was the only female speaker out of a 15 or so speaker line up. And she rocked the house. She was dynamic, funny, compelling and energetic. Most importantly, she was totally inspiring. Although her book and message are not gender specific, she is living confirmation that women can kick ass in whatever field they choose. In particular, her experiences are told from a very male dominated field -technology.
Although her book is not real estate related, the 10 Rules she presents are very powerful and applicable to those of us who run real estate businesses. She also provides lots of freebies on her website, www.rulesforrenegades.com such as goal setting worksheets and business plan templates as a supplement to the content in her book. Christine tells great stories which are interspersed throughout the valuable business lessons provided in the book. This is a fun read with practical applications. Especially rewarding are her methods of increasing the worth of your company by utilizing a board of advisors and her insightful views on networking. These alone are worth the price of the book! "
by Keith Yamashita, Sandra Spataro "There are some good fundamental ideas in this book. What I find most intriguing is how entertaining it is - lots of pictures, diagrams and .... color. Although in reality, they really only use three colors in the book- black, white and occasionally blue, it is amazing how stimulating to the eye that is. Several pages point to other related concepts, sending you to some future page in the book or even back to a previous page. Did i mention there are no chapters? It is almost as though if you randomly found yourself "stuck", you could literally pick up this book and like the magic eight ball game, shake it, read it and whatever page you landed on would be your answer! Fun! Hard to put down one you start reading. Consider yourself warned. Enjoy. This book is available for check out at the investCLUB for Women Library."
A Return to Love, by Marianne Williamson "I actually had the wonderful opportunity of listening to Marianne lecture live in LA. It was a beautiful and enlightening experience. Her love, joy and wit come out so clearly in her speaking and especially in her writing that it is delicious read. I was always intrigued by the Course in Miracles but if you have ever picked up that book, it seems daunting at first glance. Reading it through the reflections of Marianne certainly makes it simpler and comprehensible. Ladies, we all need a Return to Love!"
"This was a recommended read by my mentor and friend, Sam Sadat. There are many versions/translations of this ancient text by Lao Tzu and I picked this one because I found it to be the most visually appealing. I cant help it. I love pretty things. I read little snippets of it every few days. Some sayings are enlightening and others I don't necessarily understand. What is fun is you can challenge your own poetic interpretations of the book to this particular author's interpretation of the verse. Sometimes I am right on and others... well I just have to laugh at myself. And some verses are just so amazingly profound. This book is available for check out at the investCLUB for Women Library"
October Books "#1 on NY Times and Wall Street Journal Bestseller list. I totally get it. I love this book. I had heard about it from Bobi Simanton, my partner and then I heard Charrissa Cawley talk about the book. At that point, I knew it was a must read. I remember the night I picked up a copy. I was salivating at the lips wanting to eat up every sentence I read. Timothy Ferriss, young and genius and part of the self proclaimed "New Rich". Don't know about you but that sounds like a cool group to belong to. Ferriss talks about the importance of "lifestyle design" and gives steps on how to create it. He reminds his readers that although a lot of people strive to be millionaires, you don't have to be one to live like one. You can be, do, or have all the things you want now. He creates a totally new paradigm for business. Great book and so applicable for today's entrepreneur." "I picked up this book at the Womanaire Extraordinaire event. As a matter of fact, the author, Mabel Katz, was a guest speaker at the brilliantly empowering event. She was charming and compelling - so much that I just had to have her book. Little book, easy read and very enlightening! Mabel teaches the ways of the Hawaiian art of Ho'oponopono in the simplest and most direct fashion. She shares wonderful anecdotes - great for party conversations and examples of powerful and inspiring life lessons. Gratitude and Love are the "easiest" way."
"This is a classic business book. Originally published over 20 years ago, the principles that Gerber teaches are so important and still applicable today. This is required reading for all small business owners. In his last printing in 2001, Gerber quotes the Department of Commerce that "Every year, over a million people in this country start a business of some sort. Statistics tell us that by the end of the first year at least 40 percent of them will be out of business." With these staggering numbers, it is important to have all the tools and knowledge available to create success. If you call yourself a small business owner, or better yet, an "emerging" business owner (thanks Womanaire Extraordinaire), read this important book. Know how to set yourself up so you do not become part of the Dept of Commerce statistics."
"Inspirational reading. This book has over 40 stories of ordinary human beings that do extraordinary things. And yes, it is easy to call Millard and Linda Fuller, the founders of Habitat for Humanity or Paul Orfalea, the founder of Kinko's extraordinary people already. What is so inspiring is that there are certain identifiable traits in all these immensely successful people that we all already possess. By identifying them and putting them to action, we all can become extraordinary and unstoppable! What makes this book different is that Kersey breaks down each of these traits by chapter. At the end of each chapter she has an assignment - your own action plan that you create that is applicable to your own life. A book with homework that can change your life! Good stuff. If anything, the stories and backgrounds of many of the people that appear in her book are totally amazing and fun to read." September Books "This book was given to me by investCLUB for Women Annual Member, Kathy Douglas. She really just wanted me to read one of the chapters in the book entitled "Integrity". This chapter about Linda Chae creator and advocate of toxic free beauty products and how she came about her mission. I found it so inspiring, it brought me to tears. Always a sign of a great book in my in opinion! Quickly I realized that this was just one juicy chapter of an incredibly wonderful book. I was compelled to read on. The way the stories are put together as they are intertwined with the author's own life is creative and original. Imagine getting doses of "Courage", "Self Love", "Grace" and "Humility" as you relive and relate to the powerful stories the women have to tell! I highly recommend this book."
"Dr. Denis Waitley appears in The Secret and is referenced a lot by many of prominent personal development gurus. In my experience it is always intriguing to read and learn from the original masters that influenced the mindset of many influential speakers today. Although this original work was published in 1980 a lot of what he references is still pertinent. It is also intriguing to read about things that he predicted would have huge impact by the year 2000 that didn't necessarily come to fruition yet, like use of hydrogen to power automobiles. Regardless, his concepts are sound and form the basis of what is important - attitude is everything!" "6.5 Assets for Networking Your Way to RICH Relationships. Did I mention that part of our mission at investCLUB is to support Women in creating quality Connections? I had no idea there was so much to learn about networking. There is definitely a science behind it. This book is very enlightening and a fun read to boot. Gitomer is also a master salesperson and knows how to create value in every product he offers."
August Books "I am loving this book. Small, handy and...RED. Solid ideas. Jeffrey is in your face, no B.S. style of writing. I get it. I love it. Now the true test is APPLYING it. He suggests not only reading the book but rather studying it. This is one of the several books in a series. I may have them all. If not I am getting the entire series and I cannot wait to get to every juicy tidbit. Talk about an interactive book too - he sends you to his website every chapter to get more information! If you are like me - an information junkie, you will love the great value...delivered. I guess that is why he is a tried and true salesman - the best in his field." |
